Amongst the minsters treasures are a clock by the same designers as Big Ben and a spectacular 5 manual organ by the renowned German organ builder Edmund Schulze (1824-1877).
Welcome to Doncaster Minster
The Minster Church of Saint George, Doncaster stands at the heart of the town of Doncaster, where a church has stood for over 8 centuries. The present church was built to the designs of George Gilbert Scott between 1854-1858, after the mediaeval church was destroyed by fire in 1853.
The Minster offers a wide range of Sunday and weekday services within the mainstream Anglican tradition drawing on a strong musical and choral tradition to enhance the worship. It also serves as the Civic Church for Doncaster and hosts many of the Civic Services for special occasions. In 2008 the Minster celebrated of the 150th Jubilee Anniversary of the present building and everyone joined together in a year of celebrations. Currently the building is undergoing major restoration please assist us by making a contribution to our Minster Appeal.
Doncaster Minster is open throughout the week for tourists, educational visits, concerts, exhibitions, lectures, recitals and services and the site is a key part of Doncaster’s rich history and heritage and one of the town’s landmark buildings. It also offers a quiet oasis for prayer and meditation at the hub of the busy Doncaster town centre.
The Minster is currently raising funds to restore and repair this Grade One Listed Building. Please use the link on this page to help us raise the £6 Million needed to fund the Restoration programme. A New Look for the Minster
Doncaster Minster is proud to launch its new logo, designed and produced in partnership with Shane Murphy, a Design student from Doncaster College, and Printing.com, a local printing firm.
The launch of this logo marks the start of a new phase of development for the Minster, building on the our new Vision. We look to work in partnership with Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, local organisations, schools and businesses in order to integrate the Minster with the town as a focus for civic pride, heritage and community.
In 2010, the Revd Canon Paul Shackerley launched a competition with the Design students at Doncaster College to design a new logo that reflected the Minster’s emerging identity as an urban minster and which could be used to engage effectively with the civic, education and business communities.
All of the entries submitted were of an impressively high standard, but Shane Murphy’s design stood out for its distinctive clarity and multiple interpretations of its symbolism.
His design physically reflects the Minster’s East window but it also expresses theological themes of light, hope, resurrection and hospitality.
From a practical perspective it is flexible and versatile in many formats suitable for the Minster, including posters, stationery and our website.
We remain proud of our St George’s shield as part of the Minster’s heritage and it will remain a core part of the Minster’s identity as we move forward under our new Vision.
We are looking to launch our new development campaign in 2012.
